Achievement & Activities carried out by Sikkim Amateur Mountaineering Association (SAMA) :
Mountaineering Association (SAMA) was founded in the year 2002 by young, energetic and adventure lover's youths of Sikkim. Activities and functions of a mountain and adventure related NGO was also on the road along with us. We approached the Government in the year 2003. In fulfillment of the administrative formalities it took some time to get the official nod and registration. In the year 2005 SAMA got its official recognition & registration. After its inception we have been involved in various activities in the state and here are the lists of our achievements.
At Present SAMA has a total membership of 250 strong members amongst them 20 members are advance certified, 50 members are basic certified, 2 members are specialized in Search and Rescue while the rest of the members have attended different adventure camps and other workshop in different places/institutes.
|1.||Prior to our registration we were providing, Liaison Officers and Mountain Guides for high expeditions and high altitude trekking through local Home Department/IMF.|
|2.||After SAMA registration we imparted Training on Basic and Advance Search and Rescue including Survival Techniques, Basic Medical, AMS, and Rock Climbing. We also organized yearly training programs for local unemployed youths of the State of Sikkim in collaborations with the various Departments.|
|3.||We have conducted the following successful expeditions in Sikkim Himalayas :|
|a.||British-Sikkim Joint Expeditions to the peak of Mt. Lama Lamini & Mt. Tenchenkhang with Mr. Roger Payne and Ms. Juile Ann Clyma (Member of UIAA, presently the member of our organization) in the year 2005.|
|b.||Swiss-Sikkim Joint Expeditions to Mt. Rathong & Mt. Kokthang with International Mountain Guide Federations (Switzerland) 2009.|
|c.||Expeditions to Mt. Lama Lamini peak with Australian team in April 2007.|
|d.||With in short period we have successfully produced Everesters like Kunzang Gyatso who has successfully kissed the highest peak in the world Mount Everest during 22 nd May - June 2008.|
|4.||Prior to our registration, we have conducted Mountain Cleaning Program in the year 2004 in collaboration with the Department of Home Affairs, Govt. Of Sikkim and the fund was provided by IMF within the base of Mt. Kanchenjunga/Dzongri treaking route.|
|5.||Apart from our regular programs, we provide Instructors and Basic and advance Adventure Course to different Departments as and when they make their written requisitions for small or big tourism festivals, sports festivals etc. of state level in Sikkim.|
|6.||During Feb-March 2007 SAMA successfully organized 2 months advance Adventure Camp, 15 days each at different locations like Thegu (East Sikkim), Lachen & Lachung (North Sikkim) & Uttarey (West Sikkim) in collaborations with the Department of Sports and Youths Affairs, Govt. of Sikkim. All the instructors and equipment were provided by us for 200 trainees of the locations mentioned above.|
|7.||During Nov-2006, SAMA Organized 10 days Residential Basic Search & Rescue-cum- Mountain Guide Training for 30 trainees. Officials of Department of Tourism, Home Affairs, Sports & Youth Affairs, Health, Police, Disaster Management and other sister organization Like SAATO, Ecotourism Conversation Society of Sikkim, two members of IMGF (Switzerland) Mr. Rojer Payne & Ms Juile Ann Clyma and Experts of SAMA. Speeches and classes were conducted right from the basic level of knotting, climbing, rappelling, search & rescue practices, night rescue, night march etc.|
|8.||On the basis of our performances and dedication some of the Departments who deal in Adventure and allied filed give us certificate sand letters of appreciations.|
All the members of our organizations are young, energetic, well experienced and qualified in the related field and have been appreciated by the local administration as well.
