His work is dedicated to exploring the rich intersection of Islamic mysticism,
particularly Sufi poetry, and the Bhakti traditions within cultural literature.
A native of Valanchery Munnakkal, Kerala, Dr. Hanih's intellectual foundation
began with his Bachelor's degree completed at WMO College, Muttil, Wayanad. He
then pursued his M.A. and Ph.D. in Malayalam Literature at AMU. His M.A.
research on the folklore of the Kadalundipuzha river banks received the M.P.
Paul Memorial Award.
Dr. Hanih has published two books with Book Plus in 2023: Malayalam Sufi Poetry
(മലയാള സൂഫി കവിത) and Sufism in Modern Discourses (സൂഫിസം ആധുനിക വ്യവഹാരങ്ങളിൽ).
His
doctoral thesis, a focused study on the "Poetic identity of Malayalam Sufi
poetry," is a significant contribution that has helped establish this
literary form as a distinct genre. This research trajectory led to his prestigious
ICSSR fellowship, which is funding his current inquiry into "The Role of
Bhakti Poetry and Sufi Poetry in the Social Reformation of Kerala,"
further examining the transformative power of these literary and spiritual
traditions.
His
book Malayala Sufi Kavitha earned the 2023 Mahakavi Moinkutty Vaidyar Mappila
Kala Akademi Literary Award.
His
areas of expertise encompass Mysticism, the intricate relationship between
Sufism and politics, Islamic eschatology, folklore, and anti-imperialism. His
analyses and perspectives reach a broad audience through his academic papers in
journals, as well as through articles and essays.
